Otoplasty or corrective surgery for prominent ears is usually performed under local anesthesia except in children who are performed under general anesthesia.

During surgery, the normal folds of the ears are reconstructed and the auricle is repositioned backwards. It is verified that there is no active bleeding and the wounds are closed. Finally, a compression bandage is left.

In children, otoplasty is done around 6 years of age. At this age, children are sufficiently motivated and their ears have reached a size and development that allows surgery to be performed.
